Anatomy of Complications Workshop

17 - 18 April 2010

Course Objectives

The Anatomy of Complications Workshop (ACW) aims to improve the performance of specialist obstetricians and gynaecologists in the area of prevention and management of complications in obstetric and gynaecological surgery. This two day programme is an intensive, hands-on, practical learning experience that was conceived and developed in October 2000 by gynaecologic oncologist Ian Hammond and urologist John Taylor in Perth, Western Australia when they recognized that their specialist colleagues in obstetrics and gynaecology were not always comfortable in dealing with inadvertent injury to urological, gastrointestinal and major vascular structures. They believe that a thorough understanding of the surgical anatomy of the pelvis underpins successful and safe clinical practice and this theme is fostered throughout the workshop. An integrated two day programme was developed and an innovative anatomy module was also developed by anatomist Professor Paul McMenamin. The 1st ACW held in Singapore on 24-25 Nov 2007 was immensely successful and this workshop is now held twice yearly at the National University Hospital. In 2008 the ACW Singapore was the first surgical workshop in Singapore to receive the endorsement and support of the Medical Protection Society
