Course Objectives

A three-session curriculum totalling 10.5 hours is the basis for the comprehensive laparoscopic basic training course. High-tech facilities like virtual lab simulator, hands-on live training using pulsating organ perfusion box would be utilized. Lectures including topics on: how to setup a laparoscopic camera system; how to access the abdomen, create working space and how to manage complications; how to run an intracorporeal suture or use a laparoscopic stapler would also be run.

Who Should Attend

Neophytes, advanced surgical trainees, and the practicing surgeons who want to develop or improve in laparoscopic surgical skills. Operating theatre staffs who want to understand more on the basic theory and the rationale of Minimally Access Surgery (MAS).

BASIC PRINCIPLES IN LAPAROSCOPIC SURGERY

Energy Sources and Sealing
Access and related complications
Physiological Changes and Anesthesia

Day 1: 1.00pm - 04.30pm

HANDS-ON DRY TISSUE

Practice on Instruments & Devices
Basic Coordination Skills in Dry-Box
Virtual Simulator Skills
Extra and intracorporeal Knot Tying
Video Masterclass (Appendectomy, Cholecystectomy)

Day 2 : 9.00am - 12.00pm

HANDS-ON WET-TISSUE USING POP TRAINERS

Camera Setup, Operation and troubleshooting
Basic Skill: dissection, cutting, etc
Extra and Intra-corporeal Knotting
Specimen Retrieval
Suturing
Stapling technique (circular, linear, etc)
Simple surgical procedures (appendectomy, etc)
